Manchester Has Previous Form

Why we're building Alt Production Group here

Alt Production Group describes itself rather simply:

Independent engineering · Manchester, UK.

The Manchester part isn't incidental.

This is a city with previous form.

Industrialisation changed Manchester and Manchester helped change industrialisation. Computing history runs through the city. Engineering, science, manufacturing, communications, culture and radical politics have repeatedly collided here in ways that travelled considerably further than Greater Manchester.

Now we're living through another technological transformation.

Digital infrastructure increasingly determines how people communicate, how businesses operate, how identities are established, how information moves and where authority sits.

AI is accelerating that change again.

Security architecture is being forced to respond.

Privacy is becoming an infrastructure question.

The relationship between humans and machines is changing in real time.

And Alt Production Group is building from Manchester.

There is something pleasingly appropriate about that.

We're not claiming Manchester single-handedly invented the modern world.

Manchester doesn't particularly need us to.

But we do think the city should remain somewhere ambitious technological work gets built rather than merely somewhere technology developed elsewhere gets consumed.

We want more infrastructure here.

More deep technology.

More independent engineering.

More research.

More founders.

More weird people with unusual brains staring at impossible problems and deciding they're going to build something anyway.

Alt intends to contribute to that.

So perhaps the footer says everything it needs to say:

Independent engineering · Manchester, UK.

Although internally, we may occasionally translate that as:

Manchester, apparently one technological revolution wasn't enough, it's time to bring technology back home.
